Available Therapies and Services
Our mission at Tao of Wellness is to provide you with the complete
complement of healing modalities to enhance your health restoration and
rejuvenation. Besides acupuncture, herbal and nutritional therapies,
Body Work is the 4th pillar within the tradition of Chinese Medicine.
What is the benefit of Body Work?
Body Work involves working with muscles and joints to help improve
circulation, eliminate toxins, relax and recondition muscles, increase
joint lubrication and motion, and release tension and stress. It has
also been found to improve sleep and elevate mood.
When should I receive Body Work?
Body Work is an excellent therapy for acute muscle and joint injuries
or chronic inflammation and spasm. It’s also wonderful to help relax
when you are under stress and feeling tense and anxious. Many people
also find benefit from Body Work when having difficulty reshaping or
losing weight. Additionally, regular bodywork can help you maintain
health and vitality, resulting in increased clarity and quality of life.
How Does Body Work complement my acupuncture treatments?
Body Work enhances acupuncture by preparing the body and mind and
facilitating the opening of the energy pathways before your acupuncture
treatment while also reinforcing new patterning within the body tissues
after your acupuncture treatment. When combined, acupuncture with Body
Work can reduce the healing time for any given condition.
How often should I receive Body Work?
During the acute stage of an injury or condition, more frequent
sessions with twice a week intervals may be recommended initially,
whereas during the chronic stage, once a week or every other week may be
sufficient for healing. Many people choose to receive Body Work every
two weeks or monthly as a health maintenance activity especially in the
absence of any symptom.
Is Body Work painful or uncomfortable?
Most Body Work techniques practiced at Tao of Wellness are quite
comfortable and often enjoyable. Occasionally, when the need arises
where deep tissue work is called for, you may experience some tenderness
as blockages are being released. Your therapist will discuss with you
ahead of time and determine the appropriate level of pressure for your
condition.
Which type of Body Work do we offer?
At Tao of Wellness, we offer reflexology and Tuina, both unique and
effective techniques for our patients’ needs.
Reflexology based on acupuncture meridian principles, microsystems
exits within the hands and feet that reflect the entire body and its
various parts. By massaging the hands and feet, one’s organ systems get
stimulated and invigorated while blockages are released.
Tuina is a specialized, advance therapeutic massage. It combines the
practice of Chinese physiotherapy to treat physical ailments that
involve stretching, joint mobilization and vigorous acupressure to
remove stagnations. It is specially beneficial for arthritis, muscle
pain, frozen shoulder, lower back pain, hip, legs and back problems, as
well as other problems including internal medicine, (infertility or
gynecological) and pediatric disorders.
